Corporate University Summit

May 19-21, Las Vegas

The International Quality and Productivity Center will hold its fifth annual "Corporate University Summit" in Las Vegas in May. This conference focuses on the challenges and benefits of creating and maintaining a dedicated training function within your organization.

Many of the speakers are "learning leaders" of some of the most respected corporations in the country, supported by insights from consultants and academics in the field.

I will be facilitating roundtable discussions for a plenary session, following the keynote addresses, on the topic of "Change and the CU." Among the key themes of the conference are boosting effectiveness and adapting to changing times, and sometimes, once the training function is established, its leadership neglects to identify poorly performing programming and tools and fix, or even eliminate, them. (See "Same Old, Same Old")

That leads to a loss of credibility, drains resources that could be used to boost the company's bottom line, and often is the path to a lot of hardship in the training function.

The Roundtable

Healthy CUs regularly identify strategic opportunities to enhance, update, replace, or even eliminate elements that no longer deliver what their organizations need. In this session, facilitated small groups will gather best practices for benchmarking what they are doing, what they should be doing, and what they should no longer be doing.

Topics may include:

  • CU Triage: Diagnosis on an Ongoing Basis
  • Choosing Amputation: Strategic Abandonment of Programs and Tools
  • Enhancement : Adopting LCMS Tools
  • Timeliness: the Just-In-Time Approach
  • Consistency: Achieving Strategic Leadership Development
  • When the Centralized CU Model Doesn't Make Sense
  • What Will Your CFO Say About That?
  • Selling the Case for Change
