Best Consulting Practices

. . . working with established training consultants who are dissatisfied with the revenue they are generating, compared to the effort they are putting into their businesses.

Is This You?

You have been self-employed as a consultant for several years, and you're doing reasonably well. You're making a good living through educating clients, whether or not you call yourself a "training consultant." You teach your clients how to improve their own businesses.

BUT, you're stuck in a rut, and it is starting to bug you. The effort you are putting in is seriously out of balance with the revenue you are getting for that effort. You're probably in one of these situations:

  • You have plateaued. You are working harder and harder, in an attempt to boost your return from your business, but you aren't seeing results commensurate with your extra effort.
  • You have the means, but not the opportunity, for the lifestyle you desire. You went into business for yourself in part to make your own decisions and have more control over your life. Now you're making enough money to enjoy the good life, but you are working so hard to get that income that you don't have any time to take advantage of it!

How did you get into that situation? Most successful training consultants got into the business because of what they know, and how well they can share it, especially in live interactions with audiences. They were good at something, and discovered that they could make a living helping other people become good at the same thing.

In other words, they followed their content, their own expertise, into the business. But that very initial success meant they may not have done some of the planning, or acquired some of the skills, that solo entrepreneurs rely on to continue to grow their businesses. For example:

  • Many excellent speakers find writing an enormous challenge! They may not write well, they may not have time for writing, or they may just have terminal writer's block, a deep dread of writing. That's why they don't have much to offer in the way of a web site, they don't have the "free reports" and other giveaways that can be so valuable in acquiring leads and building trust, and they don't have standalone products, like self-study modules, to produce passive income.
  • Many developed their clients mostly by networking existing contacts, and through the resulting referrals. But they have never developed a clearly defined target market, or a systematic marketing plan, and they don't have those tools available when they want to expand their business outside their previous contacts.

nutshellIn a nutshell, I can complement your knowledge and skills to build your business!

My Secret? I've Been Supporting Independent Consultants for Years!

If you've come across my Best Training Practices site, you know that I have worked as an independent training consultant for decades with large organizations and their training departments. What is not obvious from that site is that I have worked with other consultants, running businesses much like my own, for many years.

I help them balance their "input and output," generating results appropriate to their efforts. Different consulting clients have different needs:

  • Some would like to have articles and white papers to support their marketing efforts, but lack either the skills or the time to produce them.
  • Others are unaware of how they could leverage their current content into stand-alone products and marketing tools.
  • And still others need an objective, supportive, outside observer to show them how they are wasting energy through unfocused marketing efforts.

I provide diagnosis, prescription, and treatment through coaching and writing services.

Putting it All in One Place . . .

I'm in the process of building a separate web site under the name Best Consulting Practices that will focus on providing the tools training consultants need to leverage their effort into better revenue returns.

This will allow you to get helpful, free information, and learn how I can help you, without wading through all the articles and reprints on my Best Training Practices site.

If you would like to get a note when the Best Consulting Practices site goes live, either drop me an e-mail at info@bestconsultingpractices.com, or subscribe to my "feed" in the upper left hand corner of my home page. I'd be happy to send you an e-mail to let you know when the site is ready for visitors.

Stay Tuned for More . . .

And thanks for stopping by!
